Bushnell H2O 10x42 Roof
Bushnell H2O 10x42 Roof is part of the H2O series. Bushnell have created a viewer that is completely waterproof and can be used in situations where a lot of water is involved, for example during kayaking, skiing, boating or on the snowmobile. Even when the viewer falls overboard you can fish it out of the water unaffected. The coating consists of extra strong rubber and has a ribbed surface on the side for extra grip, useful in extremely wet conditions. The front lenses are multi-coated for optimum light transmission and are made of BaK4 glass (the better version of BK7 glass). H2O Porro or Roof?
The H2O 10x42 is available in two versions, Porro and Roof. Porro binoculars (see diagram below)are broader binoculars and based on the first design of binoculars. The Porro consists of two rectangular prisms attached together so that the light can be reflected, resulting in a correct image. The conventional binoculars use Porro Prisms.
A Roof viewer uses special prisms. This design is technically more complicated than a Porro prism design, because it uses prisms which must have very accurately polished edges. The light is reflected four times. This design is more compact, but because the light path is longer and the prisms more complicated, the glass and the manufacturing must be of higher quality than that of the Porro Prism design. Hence Roof viewers generally have a higher price tag. Roof Prism binoculars have straight tubes as shown in the picture.
